Researchers at the University of Toronto’s citizen Lab have discovered that Apple’s software flaws were being actively exploited to deliver commercial spyware called Pegasus developed by NSO groups, an Israeli company.
In the wake of the call, Apple has released new security updates to patch these software flaws and prevent vulnerability exploitation by bad actors that may arise due to the software flaws.
Us news reports that Pegasus is an expensive tool typically used to target dissidents, journalists, and political opponents, so ordinary users likely have little to fear. Still, Citizen Lab recommends that all users should “immediately” update their devices.
The updated version is iOS 16.6.1. If you are not prompted to update by your apple devices, you must trigger a manual update by going to your Apple device Settings, clicking “General,” and selecting “Software Update.”
